Feeding of protozoeal stages of the shrimp Pleoticus muelleri Bate with different microencapsulated food and microalgae species

The aim of this work was to obtain an adequate diet for the growth and survival of protozoeal stages of Pleoticus muelleri. Parabolic tanks of 10 liters were used and the shrimp were kept under controlled conditions of temperature, salinity and pH. Naupliar stages were stored at a density of 100 l-1. Different combinations of Chaetoceros gracilis, Tetraselmis chuii, dry Schizochytrium sp. and microencapsulated feeds were tested. The experiment ended when the animals reached the mysis I stage. According to the results obtained (88.5% in survival and 339.6% of increase in length, and 11 days to mysis I) the best diet was a combination of Chaetoceros gracilis and Tetraselmis chuii in concentrations of 100,000 cél mL-1 and 10,000 cél mL-1 respectively.
